They purposefully make this drinking cup to make it easy to drink from. Furthermore, you can easily clean it. In addition, the straw cup stimulates your toddler's natural sucking reflex. And that makes it the ideal transition from the baby bottle. This drinking cup is suitable from 9 months.

No bite valve
The Hegen straw cup has been deliberately designed so that children can easily drink from it. We have therefore chosen not to place a bite valve in the straw, unlike other straw cups on the market. Although a bite valve helps prevent leaks, we have found that it often compromises drinking comfort during the first few times your child learns to drink through a straw.
When your child learns to drink through a straw for the first time around 9 months, it is best if it is as simple as possible, without having to suck extra hard. And that's without a bite valve. With this design, Hegen opts for the child's drinking convenience.
Because there is no bite valve in the straw, this means that moisture can potentially escape from the top straw if it is left open - especially when there is a difference in temperature (for example if a Hegen straw cup that has been in the refrigerator is taken out and placed outside in the sun). A simple solution to this is to close the lid on the Hegen straw cup properly when not drinking, and not to leave the straw cup open. Easy peasy!
