Babies and (breast)feeding

Baby's en (borst)voeding

Congratulations, a little one has been born! Your leave is coming to an end and your first day at work is quickly approaching... An exciting period: your child is going to daycare for the first time, you are no longer together 24/7 and you will occasionally have to miss that one-on-one moment when you (breast)feed.

Kideo, an extension of home

Approximately two weeks before the start of the first day of care, we will contact you by telephone to schedule an intake interview. During this conversation, your baby's rhythm will be discussed, so that we can match your child's rhythm in the baby group as much as possible to the rhythm at home. It is not without reason that Kideo wants to be an extension of home. The nutrition(s) are also discussed during this conversation. When your child is with Kideo, he or she will receive a bottle with expressed breast milk or formula. If your child receives formula, Hipp (organic formula) is offered. All food and diapers are included in the childcare price at Kideo. For children who are used to being breastfed, the transition to the bottle can sometimes be quite difficult. The same goes for my own daughter. The maternity nurse gave me a tip to practice using the bottle in between, about 4-6 weeks after birth. I did this dutifully (about three times) and it went very well. Unfortunately, when we went to practice with Grandma for a day, two weeks before I went back to work, the bottle turned out to be no longer such a success. I started looking into it and discovered that babies have a kind of reflex to drink the bottle during the first three months. However, after this period they lose this reflex, so they no longer have any idea what to do with such a bottle! Help…there I was. Sad baby, sad mom, stress... how did this happen with Kideo? Fortunately, Kideo offers the opportunity to breastfeed on location. For example, as soon as your child wakes up or shows that he or she would like food, the teachers will send a message to mother so that she can come over to feed. Did you know that you can also organize your pumping time this way? Isn't this ideal after all, because your work is far from Kideo, for example? In the podcast below, we asked lactation consultant Geerte for a few tips to practice using the bottle while breastfeeding. And my daughter? He didn't drink the bottle anywhere, except with one teacher at Kideo... Fortunately, it all turned out fine. I talk about it in the podcast:

In addition to bottle feeding, your child may also be introduced to other foods at some point. Fresh fruit and vegetable snacks are offered every day in the baby group. Children learn to get to know different tastes and textures and to eat independently. At every stage we try to meet the needs of the child as best as possible. Parents can read more about this in our nutritional policy (available via the parent portal). We also regularly share fun recipes and other tips on our website and social media!
